o Our Main Business is the manufacturer and distributor of instant noodle products (ramen type and rice noodles), rice products (such as instant rice porridge, instant rice soup) under “MAMA” trademark, which has been well-known and accepted among consumers for more than 35 years with over 50% of market shares, and also the manufacturer and distributor of biscuits, cookies and wafers products under “Bissin” and “Homey” trademarks.
o The company has also invested in other groups of business of raw materials and packaging in order to enhance the primary business and allow the company to effectively control the price and quality of our main products.
o For the sale side, the company has also invested in business handling marketing and distribution activities in order to add new marketing channels for the sales and ensure that the company’s products would reach all groups of consumers both domestic and overseas.

How long have you been in business?
Thai President Foods Plc.(TF) was established in 1972. We just celebrated our 35th anniversary in year 2007.

Does the company produce private label products as well?
We are pleased to meet customer needs, and currently produce private label products for local and overseas customers such as Europe, Australia, Asia.

What is the most popular flavor of “MAMA”?
The most popular one is the Thai traditional cuisine flavour such as Shrimp Tom Yum, Shrimp Creamy Tom Yum and Minced Pork flavour.

Where is “MAMA” exported to?
MAMA” is exported to many countries including Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Korea), Europe (Finland, the Netherlands, U.K., France, Germany, Romania, Belgium) and America (the U.S., Canada , Mexico), Australia and Middle East.

Did the company conduct any market research on flavor preferences before production? If so, how was it conducted?
The company uses two methods in surveying new flavor preferences:
1. The customer (Saha Pat) conducted a market survey on the desire for new flavors. Following the preliminary information on customer preferences, Saha Pat and TF studied and developed new flavors according to the information. During the development process, taste testing was done to make sure the flavors were satisfactory.
2. TF began studying flavors thought to be popular among consumers before making recommendations to Saha Pat, after receiving approval the flavors would be tested to ensure consumer satisfaction.

What is used for boosting the flavor of MAMA instant noodles? Does it cause an allergic reaction in consumers?
MSG (Mono sodium glutamate) is used for flavoring the instant noodles. MSG is a natural substance, found in fresh food such as vegetables and chicken and consists of glutamic acid, resulting in good flavors. MSG is the salt from glutamic acid and is classified as “Generally Recognized as Safe” (GRAS) substance by the USFDA . It is normal for some consumers to have a reaction to MSG, however most do not have a reaction to MSG.

How much MSG is in each packet?
The amount of MSG varies depending on each flavor. However, the amount of MSG in each product is indicated in the ingredients information on each packet (which is normally not more than one gram per one packet of noodles).

Does TF have vegetarian products?
Yes, in addition to vegetarian fried noodles also available are the MENDAKE (air-dried) noodles which meet vegetarian requirements.

Does TF have any products for children?
At present, TF have launched 2 series of products for children as follows:-
o “MAMA” carrot instant cup noodles “Kan-Kluay” Corn Cheese Flavour and Pizza Flavour NO MSG
o “MAMA” instant rice porridge Pork Flavour and chicken Flavour NO MSG and Fish Oil (Omega 3 –DHA/EPA good for brain and heart) added.
TF used to have “MAMA Khun Noo” (MAMA Kids) and “JUM MUM”, produced for children, with smaller portions and lower amounts or no MSG. Currently these products are not in production.

Does TF have Halal products?
Yes we do.
Our “MAMA” trademark Instant Noodles sold domestically (in Thailand) , though have not certified the halal emblem since we have the well recognised pork flavor manufactured in the same factory. Then, we would like to reccomend our “Ruski” Trademark Instant noodles which is HALAL certified by the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand (CICOT) and currently launched 2 flavors : Tom Yam flavor and Stewed beef flavor.
Besides, all products under trademark “Homey” and “Bissin” are certified as Halal Food by the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand and highly recommended for Islamic consumers.
All the products mentioned above are manufactured by our factory in Rayong province which was intentionally bulit on HALAL purpose and have been received "Halal" emblem from 3 organizations:-
1) the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand (CICOT)
2) JABATAN AGAMA ISLAM of Malaysia
3) Hal-Q from Halal Science Center, Chalalongkorn University. This standard has been derived from Halal-GMP-HACCP which the integration of GMP, HACCP and islammic law for halal food.
Under the regulations of these 3 standards, our factory has to be regularly examined and this can assure the wholesomeness according to the Islamic Law on our halal food products delivered to consumers.

What is the shelf-life for instant noodles and biscuits?
This depends on the materials used for packaging and how the products are kept. Normally, instant noodles sold in Thailand should be consumed within four months to ensure freshness. However, in Europe or cooler climates instant noodles can be kept for up to six to eight months. Biscuit products have a shelf life of approximately eight to twelve months.

Are eggs used as an ingredient in biscuits and instant noodles?
All information on ingredients is included on the product packaging.

Is the meat in MAMA Cup real, or Synthetic Protein? It does not taste like real meat.
The ingredient information on the packing will clearly indicate what has been used, whether it is a real meat product or Synthetic Protein.

What is the nutritional value of instant noodles?
The Nutrition facts are shown on the packaging. Normally, instant noodles (fried) contain 300 calories per 60 gram packet, with the daily intake being 2000-2500 calories per day. Instant noodles contain carbohydrates, protein, and oil all energy producing goods, in addition Vitamin A, iron, iodine have been added to meet nutritional needs. However, to increase nutritional value of instant noodles, it is suggested that vegetables, egg, and meat is added accordingly.

How does TF produce instant noodles? Is there a system used to monitor the oil used for frying the noodles? How clean and safe is the system?
TF, largest instant noodle producer in Thailand has received certification for food production safety for products sold in Europe, as well as GMP standardization, HACCP, and ISO 9001. The TF production system for instant noodles is as follows:
Production begins with selection of the wheat flour that is suitable for making good quality noodles. From then the flour is kneaded and flattened into sheets, cut into noodles, steamed, and doused with soup to make them aromatic. Each section of noodles is put into blocks or frying bowls and passed through a fryer with hot palm oil (Thailand is the second largest producer of pure palm oil in the world, no less than 40 tons are used daily in the production of MAMA). The temperature of the frying process is controlled by steam, also known as the indirect heat system which exchanges heat with steam, ensuring thorough frying.
During the frying process, new oil is continuously added automatically to replace the oil lost during the process. In addition, TF tests the oil every three hours to maintain the quality (standard quality oil must pass the acid and peroxide value tests). Therefore, the oil used in the frying process by TF is never reused.

What kind of stock used for favoring the noodles?
The stock used for favoring the noodles before being fried is the chicken stock which is made from real chicken not the synthetic.

Is there any harm if we eat MAMA without boiling (nomally said as eating raw MAMA) ?
It is the misunderstanding on the word “raw” since in the process of manufacturing instant noodles, the noodles have to be steamed and fried. So there is no concerned if you want to eat it as snack like chips. Some consumers concern about the indigestion of eating instant noodles without boiling, the fact is that instant noodles is carbohydrates which can be partially digested by saliva in your mouth.
